Get text alignment from $getSelection()

I'm brand new to this library. As the title says, I'm looking for a way to determine the text alignment (left, center, right, justify) from the results of $getSelection() - or something else, if it cannot be retrieved through that method.

I would like to change the active alignment's Toolbar button to "active" when the cursor is on a node that has the corresponding text alignment, but I'm not finding a way to.
