Is there a specific reason why .qmd cannot be used for the feedback file? I got this error:

I don't think that many users would need this. What situation were you envisioning? If some users find themselves in this situation then they can either (1) provide both the existing and the gradetools-written feedback files to their students; or (2) write a function that merges the two feedback files in a single document.

If we wanted to provide support for this functionality, we would need to decide exactly how to implement it.

• Do we make gradetools look for a feedback file with a given naming convention and either append the new feedback, if it finds this file, or otherwise create a new file?
• What formats for the existing files do we support?
• What happens if the user graded with gradetools and then decided they wanted to change the way they were grading and deletes the grading log and final grade files? The new feedback may be appended to the old one, but that would be an undesired behavior in this case.

For the above reasons, I think adding support for this may accidentally create more confusion than help. I am happy to discuss this though, if you think there's something I am missing or if I am thinking about this in the wrong way.

Currently, if at least one student has not been graded then gradetools will update the format of all feedback files. But if all students have been graded then the feedback format will stay the same. Need to fix this.
