Storing traces in D1 vs Analytics Engine

Is there a design decision for why data is stored in d1 vs. analytics engine? Wouldn't the latter be more scalable and performant? Just curious if that was a conversation or discussion.

I am not super familiar with the Analytics Engine. It looks like this meant for things like metrics, as opposed to the full trace data. Historically this application came from a situation where it was not running on Cloudflare and over there we were using a simple Sqlite backend (see: https://github.com/fiberplane/otel-worker/blob/main/otel-worker-cli/src/data.rs#L105). So it made sense to just port that to use D1 instead.
