Link for Slack is no longer active on Home Page

🐞 Problem

The "Link for Slack" on the Home Page is currently inactive. This means users cannot access the Slack channel directly from the home page.

🎯 Goal

The goal is to either reactivate the Slack link with the correct URL or remove it if Slack support is no longer offered. This change is important to ensure that the information presented on the Home Page is accurate and functional. If Slack is still supported, having an active link provides an easy and direct way for users to connect and collaborate, improving communication and community engagement. If Slack is no longer supported, removing the link prevents confusion and ensures a clean, up-to-date user experience.

💡 Possible solutions

If Slack is still supported: Update the existing "Link for Slack" with the correct, active URL.
If Slack is no longer supported: Remove the "Link for Slack" entirely from the Home Page.

I'd like to work on this! 👋

From checking the current site and README, there is no mention of Slack anymore, and older issues show the link has been broken for years.

I believe the best fix is to remove the inactive "Link for Slack" from the home page to avoid confusing new users.

Plan:

• Locate the Slack link in the relevant file (likely index.html or a Markdown file that generates the home page)
• Remove the link/button/section
• Commit with clear message: "docs: remove inactive Slack link from home page (Link for Slack is no longer active on Home Page #111088)"
• Open a small PR with before/after screenshot if possible

Does this direction sound good? Happy to adjust if Slack should be kept/replaced with something else.

I'd like to work on this issue (#111088) as my first contribution! 👋

Observations:

• The live site has no Slack link or community section visible at all right now.
• The website code lives in https://github.com/firstcontributions/firstcontributions.github.io (Astro-based).
• Slack invites have expired repeatedly in past issues, and the new one shared is: https://join.slack.com/t/firstcontributors/shared_invite/zt-23nl012s0-W_b_hiWMeE5J_YdHiYf7Qg

Proposed fix: Remove any remaining Slack references (button/link/text) from the homepage to keep things accurate and avoid confusion. If Slack should be added back instead, let me know!

Plan:

• Fork https://github.com/firstcontributions/firstcontributions.github.io
• Search codebase for "slack", "join.slack.com", "firstcontributors" (likely in src/pages/index.astro, a layout/footer component, or similar)
• Remove the relevant code section
• Test locally with pnpm dev (or npm if preferred)
• Open a small PR with:
  • Title: "Remove inactive/outdated Slack link reference from homepage (Link for Slack is no longer active on Home Page #111088)"
  • Description: Explain change + screenshot of clean homepage
  • Reference this issue

Does this direction sound good? Happy to adjust based on maintainer preference (remove vs. update/add the new link).
