Unable to open Flutter project in Android Studio

Description

I'm unable to open my Flutter project in Android Studio. When I try to open the project, nothing happens - no error message, no crash, Android Studio simply doesn't respond or open the project.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Android Studio
2. Click on "Open an Existing Project" or "File > Open"
3. Select the Flutter project directory
4. Nothing happens - no project opens, no error dialog appears, Android Studio remains on the welcome screen or current state

Environment

• Android Studio Version: Android Studio Otter 2 Feature Drop | 2025.2.2 Patch 1

Downgrading the plugin to 88.1.0 seems to have solved it for me.

If the project doesn’t include the .idea folder, it won’t open, but using the command line it opens without any errors.

I'm able to reproduce this problem on Android Studio but not when I'm running workbench. @jwren should this be combined with #8661?

@helin24 Hi, I'm still experiencing this issue after the recent commits.
What should I do to resolve it? Should I:

• Wait for the next Flutter/plugin update?
• Downgrade to a specific version?
• Use any temporary workaround?

Does your project not have a .idea directory? If that's the case, you may be able to open it in intellij instead of android studio the first time, then open in Android studio subsequently as the first open will generate the directory.

If your project already has a .idea directory, I wonder if you could send it to me? It would be nice to compare. In that case it seems like downgrading to 88.1 for now would be reasonable.

@helin24 My Flutter project didn't have a .idea folder. I opened it in IntelliJ first and it created the .idea directory. Then I could open it in Android Studio without any issues
