How to specify maintenance window for ImageUpdateAutomation

AFAIK, after reading the docs and searching through issues in repos of the two image-*-controller-s, there is no out-of-box way to restrict the ImageUpdateAutomation to perform updates only within a specified maintenance window, for example, between 1 am and 6 am.

First question: does such approach even make any sense from maintenance point of view?
I'm thinking of preventing downtime, making it easier to resolve any incidents, etc.
AFAIU, there is no way to auto-suspend / auto-revert image automation in case of an incident.

So, I'm exhausting technically possible yet not too convoluted alternatives to achieve such a maintenance window and I see two options:

1. Nightly scheduled GitHub Actions workflow notifies image-reflector-controller to trigger image updates with webhooks.
2. Typically configured image automation, but pushes to a different branch and is gated with auto PR, then PR is reviewed, approved and, finally, another custom GitHub Actions workflow runs nightly to auto-merge such approved PRs.

Another question, do those options make sense or is there any better approach to ensure image updates happen only during a specified time window?

Obviously, all the options are slightly different and have different pros/cons, but at this stage I'm only interested in time-constraining when pods get updated to newer image.

I'll appreciate any feedback.
