We provide training for complex scientific open-source software (Open-Systems Pharmacology) and add longer bullet-point sections with guidance. We have the following issues:
Hundreds to thousands of screenshots per course
Need to clone a course for each new major release (1-2 years), losing the relationship between them.
Maintainability (We currently delete older courses, albeit some people may still use older deployments, with over 20 different courses, we also lose overview)
Creation Effort (Making screenshots and adding them to a text editor takes a lot of time)
The difference to software documentation is the focus on use cases and scientific applications.
Describe the solution you'd like
Course Versioning- Having one course, but keep multiple versions behind to choose from. Like accessing the Intro course and selecting the related software version (V12, V11, V10). There might be other use cases where a more general theme could lead to course variations based on regulatory frameworks or jurisdiction. Like a tax course with a selector on the ISO standard, or based on the country (India vs Germany compliance). Your Frappe School courses may have the same issue, as they are labeled for ERPNext V15. Why not overlay the new version without deleting the old?
iFrame integration to content from tools like Glitter AI, which allows AI-based translation of video recordings into action-based step-by-step guides. However, I then have a sync issue between the editor company (Glitter, Vendor-lock-in) and the embedding place in the LMS. So, usually we have 15-25 slides per course with different software hands-on, and I am not sure how to organize them neatly in the LMS and the associated Editor, but this is probably also a problem with SCORM.
Tidy up solution to remove images that are not embedded (Not sure if it is an issue with Frappe)
Super fast transfer of screenshots into the document without editing overhead or need to think about image annotation. In my experience, it is quicker to redo such software screenshots than to try to find them again. However, it might be useful to adjust image annotations based on which slide they are embedded in. So if I drop an image in on a slide with ID 123, the image gets the name 123-Step4.png directly
Describe alternatives you've considered
We evaluated various LMS providers, but there is rarely one that focuses on a versioned, hands-on software course provider.
Additional context
Our current site is learn.esqlabs.com. I am looking for an alternative to TalentLMS due to its extremely buggy and unusable editor since transitioning to their new system. In addition to a new ERP system, we want to roll out.
