It should be possible to submit incomplete exams

It's an edge case, since I expect most people will want to answer every question, but it would be nice if you could submit at any point.

We'd definitely want to warn people and force them to confirm, though.

Even if it's not something we'd want regular users to do, it might be helpful while debugging.

There is no such thing as "submitting" - technically. Provided you have time left, you can return to an exam.

So, you are welcome to click the X (exit) button on the window to "submit early".

Otherwise, I have been considering putting the nav sidebar on the exam page to allow the ability to go to the "home" page. Though, the initial discussions we had, we decided against that, because the exam page was supposed to be "full focus".

Right, but how do I know that my progress is saved? Is each question submitted as I go? It's not obvious to me that that's the case.

Yes, each "submit" is a submit. If you have a slow enough internet connection, this is obvious.

Allow exam submission whenever you want to.

That or communicate that exiting is effectively submission. Currently it says something like "you can't retake", but that's also a little misleading, since my ability to retake has nothing to do with that. If I exit and restart the app, nothing happens except a bit of lost time.

So, maybe just

"Are you sure you wish to exit before finishing? Only the previously submitted answers will be part of your submission".

Something like that?

Part of the problem is there are two submit buttons. The fact that "Submit Exam" exists makes me think that that's how I, well, submit an exam. That's not right, though, is it? You submit answers and then when the time is up, that's it.

Maybe it would be better to simply remove the "Submit Exam" button until you've submitted the last answer. Then we could show a modal:

"Congratulations on reaching the end of the exam. Your submission has been saved on our servers, but you can continue to modify your answers until the time is up" with some buttons like "check exam" "exit" (or whatever)

At that point it could make sense to have a button to let you go back to the menu, but perhaps that's not even necessary.
