[RFC] Add credential option to generate-image script

via wireless_profile: ssid's with passwords can be created.

currently: manually add pw-file to every effected core/ap

goal: the generate-image script creates something, that runs once at the first boot and creates all needed password files on the core/ap

@Noki recommended a credential folder, which is also put into the gitignore to not expose any passwords use for one or more locations. This folder than contains location-like files which contain the neccessary passwords

RFC:

• Where to place the credential folder?
• How to structure files in the cred-folder?
• Feedback to the idea itself?

This issue could be discussed at the community day q2 2026

I think this shouldnt be done via the script.

The password-files will be read on first boot and are replaced in the config files. So the proper approach should be (imo) to fill in the passwords when generating the images to get rid of this entire process

If I understand you correctly: You suggest, that the wireless entries in /etc/config/wireless should be configuered through the firmware build by the generate-image script with the correct password(s), skipping the first-boot file-to-config process?

I meant that this should work even if you dont use the generate image script and manually just do ansible-playbook play.yml --limit foo --tags bar

So the implementation shouldn't be done in the script, but in the playbooks.

But I like your proposal, the current approach is some annoying manual work which would be nice to do automatically
