The same way as you can Ctrl+click an object and select inside the group (that already works in Point mode) in Inkscape, and the selected object will highlight in Layers and Objects.
This way you can have many objects, pick one visually, and quickly get to it to animate/change parameters. As of now, you can only change what's already animated (in the Properties panel), and have to scroll and open multiple folders to get to the right object.
