Feature Description
The dashboard has data flowing in from GitHub, PubMed and PyPI. Each of the data source covers an area where GA4GH has had an impact. Europe PMC (PMC) has scientific publication-related data and will help enhance the understanding of GA4GH's impact by sourcing data from it for visualisation on the dashboard.
Why Is This Needed?
In recent discussions (post Plenary 2025) and analysis, the data from PubMed was found not fit for purpose. In order to have a similar scientific publication-related data in the dashboard, Europe PMC (PMC) was identified as an alternative data source. PMC provides all the information similar to PubMed but additional data such as preprints, complete articles, papers, etc. are also available. Hence it was decided to deprecate PubMed as data source and use PMC instead.
Suggested Solutions
PMC has stable APIs providing easy access to data in different formats such as XML, JSON, which makes integrating it with the dashboard not overtly cumbersome. Due to the pressing need for this data source to be online by early January 2026 (decision reached in late November 2025), the team would work on infrastructure and API in the initial development phase. All testing and non-blocking work will be taken on as tech debt and managed for later delivery probably after Montreal Connect 2026.
