There are several options for mapping extensions in the IPT, if enabled by the administrator. However, it is unclear to both administrators and IPT users which extensions or terms within them will be indexed when they prepare the mapping. The publisher risks mapping to multiple extensions, and only learns upon publication that the mappings will not show in the archive.
It may not be possible to implement and maintain in practice, but it would be nice if publishers were notified during mapping that the data would not currently be shown or searchable on GBIF.org, but the mapping would be retained in the original archive (so still useful).
