Trouble loading mlba library

I am trying to execute R programs provided for the text book Machine Learning for Business Analytics with R and it seems that even after loading the library(devtools) and using the preamble suggested, the R program cannot find the library(mlba). For example, the command bank.df <- mlba::UniversalBank in Ch10.R doesn't work. It says it cannot find the library mlba.

When I execute the following, it installs the package from github:

The problem is this warning:

WARNING: Rtools is required to build R packages, but is not currently installed.

Rtools is required to build packages on Windows from source. It's a collection of compilers and other tools. Installing it, should resolve the issue.

On the other hand, the package is just a convenient way of loading the data. You can find the data files here: https://github.com/gedeck/mlba/tree/main/mlba/data-raw, download the ones you need and use something like read_csv to load them.

namespace 'vctrs' 0.5.2 is already loaded, but >= 0.6.0 is required

Looks like vctrs is a utility package (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/vctrs/index.html) and it's installed in 0.5.2 but something requires a newer version.

You can try updating this package and see if that resolves it. There are probably several other packages that could be updated. R is pretty good in avoiding problems with version incompatibilities. However, I frequently just remove the old installation and start fresh. With rstudio installing missing packages is very easy.

Hello Peter, It seems I have been able to clear up my problems with the help of one of our OIT experts on R. I am not sure where the solution came from. I did download Rtools. I did have problems in getting going with the newest version of R (4.3.2). When I downloaded R-4.3.2 it went to a location I was not expecting. When I went into RStudio and went to Tools > Global Options > General, I could only find my older version of R. After some searching I was able to route R-4.3.2 to its proper home and now things appear to be working OK. So when I talk with the students tomorrow I will emphasize that they need to have the most recent version of R, should download Rtools, and use the simpler preamble that you suggested. Just thought I would update you on my experience in case others run into some of the same issues I dealt with. Thank you for your previous e-mail responses.
