hw: replace syscall simple-numeric values by typed ones

The legacy, oldfashioned C-ish way how the base-hw kernel system-call return values are defined, is annoying since a while. At latest when solving issue #5382 @nfeske came across it again. I can wholeheartedly agree that these should be turned into typed and meaningful return values.
