Migration Progress: React + TypeScript

✅ Phase 0: Project Setup & Configuration (COMPLETED)

What Was Done:

  1. Created New Branch

    • Branch: feature/react-migration

  2. TypeScript Configuration

    • ✅ Created tsconfig.json with strict mode enabled
    • ✅ Created tsconfig.node.json for Vite config
    • ✅ Created src/vite-env.d.ts for environment variables

  3. Updated Dependencies

    • ✅ Installed React 18.3.0 & React DOM
    • ✅ Installed TypeScript 5.4.0
    • ✅ Installed Vite React plugin
    • ✅ Installed React Router DOM 6.22.0
    • ✅ Installed Zustand (state management)
    • ✅ Installed react-map-gl & Mapbox GL 3.1.0
    • ✅ Installed react-chartjs-2 & Chart.js 4.4.0
    • ✅ Installed i18next & react-i18next
    • ✅ Updated ESLint with typescript-eslint

  4. Updated Configuration Files

    • ✅ Updated vite.config.ts with React plugin and path aliases
    • ✅ Updated eslint.config.js for TypeScript and React
    • ✅ Updated package.json scripts for TypeScript build
    • ✅ Simplified index.html for React

  5. Created Project Structure

  6. Created Core Files

    • ✅ TypeScript type definitions for City, Country, Map
    • ✅ Zustand store for city selection
    • ✅ i18n configuration with Spanish and English
    • ✅ Constants file with colors and URLs
    • ✅ React Router setup with basic routing
    • ✅ Base CSS with imports for FontAwesome, Animate.css, Mapbox GL CSS

  7. Testing

    • ✅ Dev server starts successfully
    • ✅ React app renders without errors
    • ✅ Routing works (redirects to /map)
    • ✅ No console errors

📋 Next Steps: Phase 1 - Core Infrastructure

To Implement:

  1. Convert Constants.js to TypeScript

    • Migrate src/services/Constants.js city data to src/data/cities.ts
    • Add proper TypeScript types

  2. Create Custom Hooks

    • useMap.ts - Map state management
    • useGeoJSON.ts - Fetch and manage GeoJSON data
    • useMediaQuery.ts - Responsive design helper

  3. Build Core Components

    • Map components (MapContainer, StreetLayer, etc.)
    • Sidebar/Panel components
    • City list components
    • Chart components

  4. Implement Internationalization

    • Add Catalan and Italian translations
    • Create language switcher

📝 Notes

  • All dependencies installed successfully (9 vulnerabilities noted - can be addressed later)
  • TypeScript strict mode enabled - will catch type errors early
  • Path aliases configured but using relative imports initially for stability
  • Original vanilla JS code still intact in src/services/ for reference
  • Dev server running smoothly with HMR
