Use Grav 1.7 (latest) or 1.8 for new projects?

Hello, I plan to start several projects using Grav as a CMS, and I would like to know if it is better to use version 1.8 of Grav instead of its current version 1.7?

Here are some additional questions:

• Is version 1.8 compatible with the Gantry framework?
• Is version 1.8 compatible with all plugins?
• Does version 1.8 have more security holes or bugs?
• Will Grav still be updated and maintained?

I would recommend using 1.7. 1.8 is very much beta and there could be more changes. It also not extensively tested with 3rd party plugins but as it stands it's primarily focused on PHP 8.4 compatibility and that means many packages updated to newer versions. Those packages are the great unknown. Grav itself has barely changed.
