QEMU and 8-bit NE2000 cards

so many hours wasted, until i actually looked at qemu's code and realised it will not emulate a 8bit ne2k card! hence why slip on qemu!

Are you saying that QEMU won't emulate a standard NE2000 NIC? I have used QEMU many times with the ELKS NE2K driver, and it works fine. What code are compiling that actually interfaces directly to an 8-bit NE2000? The issue of 8- vs 16-bit NICs should not be an issue for any ELKS applications, just the kernel driver itself.

odd, i only skimmed qemu. hmmmmmm I am with your stock elks git clone, i will look into it in abit, just got home from a vacation, my host system is debian. is it possible i could see your qemu flags for ne2k to save me figuring out time. very eager to try out ngircd see if it actually works. so i can debug!

Looks at qemu.sh, it has been used to run QEMU on NE2000 NIC, both completely within ELKS itself as well as networking in and out of QEMU to the host. You might start with connecting to localhost and then trying tinyirc with your network daemon to see what happens, either from separate terminals (easiest), or by putting the server in the background (harder, since requires specialized programming - see ftpd or httpd for sample code).

i figured out the issue, was a weird edge case involving my nfs drive and execute permissions, i consider this resolved.
