Zephyr Weather ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our weather application.
Zephyr Weather collects and processes location information solely to provide you with accurate, localized weather forecasts. We collect:
- GPS Coordinates: When you enable location services, we access your device's GPS to determine your current position
- Saved Locations: Location names and coordinates that you manually add to the app
How We Use Location Data:
- Retrieve weather forecasts, alerts, and air quality information for your selected locations
- Display location-specific weather conditions
- All location data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers
We store your app preferences locally on your device, including:
- Display theme (light, dark, or automatic)
- Unit preferences (temperature, wind speed, pressure, precipitation, distance)
- Notification settings
- Saved locations list
- Currently selected location
Storage: All preferences are stored locally using your device's secure storage (AsyncStorage) and are never shared with third parties.
Zephyr Weather relies on the following third-party services to provide weather data:
- Purpose: Provides global weather forecasts, current conditions, air quality data, pollen information, and geocoding services
- Data Shared: GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent to Open-Meteo servers to retrieve weather data
- Privacy: Open-Meteo is an open-source weather API that does not require API keys or user authentication

- Purpose: Provides weather data for United States locations
- Data Shared: GPS coordinates are sent to NWS servers when requesting weather for US locations

We use the collected information exclusively to:
- Provide Weather Services: Display current conditions, forecasts, alerts, and air quality information for your selected locations
- Personalize Your Experience: Remember your preferred settings, theme, and units of measurement
- Improve Functionality: Maintain app performance and fix bugs
- Local Storage Only: All personal data (locations, preferences) is stored locally on your device using secure storage mechanisms
- No Cloud Backup: We do not maintain servers or cloud storage of your personal information
- No Account Required: Zephyr Weather does not require user registration or authentication
- Widget Data: Weather data displayed in iOS widgets is shared between the app and widget extension using App Groups, which remain on your device
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Weather Data Providers: GPS coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo and NWS APIs solely to retrieve weather information
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests
We do not use analytics or tracking services. Zephyr Weather does not collect usage statistics, crash reports, or any telemetry data.
Zephyr Weather requests the following permissions:
- Purpose: To automatically detect your current location and provide local weather
- When Requested: When you enable GPS-based location features
- Control: You can deny or revoke location permission at any time through your device settings
- Purpose: To send weather alerts, precipitation notifications, and daily forecast updates
- When Requested: When you enable weather notifications in app settings
- Control: You can disable notifications at any time through app or device settings
Zephyr Weather does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. The app is suitable for all ages and does not require personal information or registration.
You have full control over your location data:
- Add/Remove Locations: Manage saved locations in the Locations screen
- Disable GPS: Turn off location services in your device settings at any time
- Delete All Data: Uninstalling the app permanently removes all stored data from your device
- Duration: Data is retained on your device until you delete locations, reset settings, or uninstall the app
- Deletion: Uninstalling Zephyr Weather permanently deletes all locally stored data
Zephyr Weather is available worldwide. Weather data requests are sent to:
- Open-Meteo servers (global coverage) located in Europe
- NWS servers (US locations only) located in the United States
By using the app, you consent to the transmission of your GPS coordinates to these services for weather data retrieval.
You have the right to:
- Access all data stored by the app (view in Settings)
- Modify or delete saved locations
- Reset all settings to defaults
- Disable location services
- Uninstall the app and delete all data
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be reflected with an updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of Zephyr Weather after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Zephyr Weather is based on open-source principles. The app uses the following open-source components:
- React Native framework
- Open-Meteo weather data (CC BY 4.0)
- Various open-source libraries listed in our dependencies
