Moved window does not snap to edges (MATE)

How to reproduce:

1. Have MATE desktop / X11 (haven't tried others)
2. Open new ghostty instance
3. Move window, by either mouse or alt+click

Expected behavior:
Window would snap when border is moved in proximity of screen edges.

Actual behavior:
Initially it does not. Maximize and unmaximize the window, and then it works.

EDIT I should add that this was tried on master a244535 and 1.0.1.
