command + w - should not close app completely

When I want to close the app completely, I press Command + Q on my Mac. However, I usually just want to hide the app or close its active windows and use it in a Quake-style workflow. This is the only app that closes completely instead of just closing the active window when I press Command + W. I know there is a "Hide" shortcut, but it's more difficult to find and press; Command + W is the preferable and fast method for use with the console. Actually Actually, I never want to close the terminal. I use it often.
