I think this would definitely be possible reading the docs for the widget used on linux https://docs.gtk.org/gtk4/class.Paned.html I can't speak on the macos side at all if its easy or difficult |

So i've been using tiling panes for terminals forever mostly because of tmux but i realized something (from i3wm, the Super+right click drag) is probably the best possible way to reshape split panes in an interface.
it's to take a gesture that is otherwise never being used (middle click drag) and do the following:
When starting a middle click drag anywhere on the window, find the nearest grabbable edge, and treat it as if we grabbed that edge.
Then the drag operation proceeds as normal
The reasoning here:
middle click drag does not do anything. so i propose middle click drag to be a magnetic pane resize. magnetic is much easier to use because you don't have to carefully put the mouse exactly on a border to begin resizing it, so it can be used effectively much more quickly.
it does need to change middle click to paste on mouseup instead of on mousedown though.
