Git for Windows' Google Group is moderated insofar that first-time posters' posts have to be approved before they go through, before said approval they are "pending messages". That has served us well as the majority of such posts were spam. However, I have recently missed a couple of "pending messages" before they were deleted because I had not promoted them in time.
So the Google Group was already a thorn in my side.
Now, [email protected] will be shut down because Google's moderation team took down all but two posts, dozens of legitimate ones, with the inadequate message (to group moderators only!) to try to fight their decision by getting a lawyer. (Side note: the reporter on the Git mailing list works at Google, and even they had no luck using internal channels.)
Of course this threatens any Google Group. Before the git-mentoring disaster, I trusted the moderation team to work ethically, but that trust is now destroyed.
For that reason, I will close down Git for Windows' Google Group immediately.
