I mean should I fork the repository and become the maintainer of this grammar ? I would prefer to avoid it

Your choice. You can find an actively maintained fork or fork it yourself and contribute to that and submit a PR to this project to switch grammars.

We won't be forking it as we don't have the resources to maintain the grammar.
