about git branch --merge

When you run this command, what kind of things is git merging? branches with their parents? could you explain @hectorsector

Good question - git isn't doing any merge in this command. It's an informational command, that shows you which branches have been merged.

So, let's say you've got 3 branches:

1. master (we're checked out to this)
2. branch-a
3. branch-b

And then let's say that you merge in branch-b into master. When you run git branch --merged, you'll see:

* master
branch-b

Which indicates that branch-b has been merged into master, and is not unique.
