The online documentation using Read the docs would be a lot more user friendly if it was possible to hide/collapse the sidebar.

Spilt screen situation where you follow along the manual on one part of the screen and have the main application use most of the screen. Well, I asked because "make it more user friendly" doesn't describe any problem. To make something better we must understand what problem we are solving, and you skipped to the solution part.

Docs already have a compact mode, but it may not be useful at your resolution. It engages at 768 pixels wide, which means that at 1920 pixels wide it won't work in a split screen situation that you describe. We can play around that number, which resolution are you on?

I have a very wide screen so my problem is less than on a normal ratioed screen. Try starting godot a split screen with the docs. Give godot 2/3 of the screen and the docs in a browser beside it. The content tree is only in the way as you mostly scroll in the doc and then click next. So making the content side bar toggled would be a big and easy upgrade. Making the sidebar togglable at full width is not a great solution for usability. It only makes sense when the main content of the page is not fitting the screen with the sidebar visible. Which is why we switch to that layout at 768 pixels wide. We could increase that number if you could tell me which resolution you are at, so we can find a reasonable number.

Keep in mind, though, that the content width is fixed at 900 pixels (including the padding, so around 790 pixels for the content itself), and it can't go wider. So if you have a 3440 pixels wide display, for instance, then at a 1/3 of that width you already use almost all the width that we provide (minus ~70 pixels). The reason why the text is wrapped at 900 pixels wide is readability, as long lines are hard to read, so that number cannot be changed.

Compact mode should've been toggleable with a button from start, not only auto triggered only at certain resolutions.

So when your entire house is on fire, you're grabbing fire extinguisher only when it reaches your room?

There is literally no harm in adding that toggle button regardless of resolution. It works great on 1920x1080, but people have different resolutions and ratios, even have vertical monitors. On top of that nobody would complain about having a useful button, while they sure as hell going to complain about lack of it

@CrystalizerV2 Just like with the dark mode toggle, we would have to implement it with a client-side solution, which means flickering as the page loads. This doesn't contribute to a good user experience, and practically no website has a compact mode toggle like that. It's always a part of a flexible design.

While I asked about the resolution, what I wanted to know is the size of the window. The width to be precise. All adjustments are made depending on the width of the window, not the actual screen resolution or the aspect ratio.

I just downloaded the manual and changed it myself.
