main.yaml action is failing for last two weeks because of a running out of disk space error

The .github/workflows/main.yaml action is erroring out for the last two weeks and no new fonts are being created.

@tphinney I have submitted a PR that fixes the main.yml action to free up enough disk space that we will never run into this issue again. ( #1943 )

It would be awesome if we could get this merged so everyone can get can get updated fonts again.

The repository is too big to git checkout, so your reaction is to remove installed software in the CI runner (container image)?

I ran into this problem (with this repo) in a downstream project that puts all SVG data into JSON files for consumption in a Sphinx extension... My solution then was to do a git sparse-checkout:

TBH, I think the most ideal solution is to abstract certain parts of this project into git submodules. That way other downstream consumers (like myself) can checkout only the parts they need. Of course, this idea needs careful considerations (about current usage in various ecosystems) and admin privileges (to create other repos in the google org).
