Setting changelog-path: seems to have no effect

Setting changelog-path: "docs/CHANGELOG.md" in release-please-config.json file does not generate new changelog file in the target directory /docs. It´s always generating it in root

I had the same issue. I find the documentation not clear on this, there aren't many fully working examples. I also have several issues with files not being updated, configuration not read etc.

I somehow fixed it and I think what could help:

My worfklow contains only path to config file (leaving it empty did not work, default filename was not picked up):

    steps:
      - uses: googleapis/release-please-action@v4
        id: release
        with:
          config-file: release-please-config.json

And the config itself:

I am still trying to figure out how to make it to update extra files, they are not recognized.

And additional issue I've found which may affect it - if you have release-please PR open and there was no change (ie. no new feat/fix PR in meantime) your changes to config are not taken into consideration. For example I've merged PR with new extra-file and file was not updated. It only updated when I closed release-please PR, opened it again and re-run the release-please workflow.
