📣 Seeking New Maintainers for gphotos-uploader-cli 📣 #539

Description

@pacoorozco

Dear users, contributors, and fellow open‑source enthusiasts,

I’m writing to share an important update about gphotos-uploader-cli - the unofficial Google Photos client for macOS and Linux that many of you have come to backing up your photo libraries.

Why this announcement?
After several years of personally using Google Photos, I’ve transitioned to a different workflow and no longer maintain an active account with the service. Consequently, my ability to test, debug, and keep the client aligned with Google Photos’ evolving API is limited. While the core codebase remains functional, continued development and timely bug fixes will inevitably slow down without additional hands on deck.

What I’m looking for
I’m seeking passionate developers who:

  • Are using Google Photos as their media library.
  • Are comfortable working with Go.
  • Want to contribute to an open‑source tool that helps users manage their personal media securely.
  • Can dedicate some time to review pull requests, triaging issues, and releasing updates.

What’s in it for you?

  • Visibility as a maintainer on a open‑source project.
  • The chance to shape a tool that respects user privacy while offering a native desktop experience.

If you’re interested a quick way to get started is to comment on this issue or send me a direct message. I’ll gladly walk you through the onboarding steps.

Thank you for all the support so far, and I’m hopeful that together we can keep gphotos-uploader-cli thriving for years to come.

Paco Orozco - maintainer
