How to check if a contract exists?

I have the following use case: I'm loading a registry contract that is deployed with CREATE2 at the same deterministic address across chains.

However, on some chains where my subgraph is available, the registry contract is not available.

How can I safely check if the registry exists without having the subgraph go down?

I did this - bind the registry contract try to call the VERSION method on it. Is it OK?
