Purchase Flow - Test Results

✅ ALL TESTS PASSED!

Date: February 7, 2026 Status: FULLY FUNCTIONAL


🧪 Test Summary

Core Functionality Tests

All core purchase flow functionality has been tested and verified working:

  1. Manual Payment Request Creation

    • Payment requests are created successfully
    • Request includes user, product, contact info
    • Status properly set to 'pending'
  2. Admin Payment Confirmation & Enrollment

    • Transaction records created with 'successful' status
    • enroll_user() RPC function works correctly
    • User enrolled in courses linked to products
    • Payment request status updated to 'completed'
  3. Plan Purchase & Subscription

    • Transaction created for plan purchases
    • handle_new_subscription() RPC creates subscriptions
    • Subscription status set to 'active'
    • Duration calculated correctly (30/365 days)

Database State Verification

After complete purchase flow:

  • ✅ 1 Enrollment (product purchase)
  • ✅ 2 Transactions (product + plan)
  • ✅ 1 Active Subscription
  • ✅ 1 Completed Payment Request

🔧 Fixes Applied

1. Database Migration

File: supabase/migrations/20260207190849_add_payment_provider_to_products.sql

  • Added payment_provider column to products table
  • Added payment_provider column to plans table
  • Added CHECK constraints for valid providers
  • Status: ✅ Applied successfully

2. Checkout Actions

File: app/(public)/checkout/actions.ts

  • Now creates transaction records before enrollment
  • Uses enroll_user() RPC for products
  • Uses handle_new_subscription() RPC for plans
  • Removed service role unnecessary usage
  • Fixed transaction status ('successful' not 'succeeded')
  • Removed metadata column (doesn't exist in schema)
  • Status: ✅ Fixed

3. Manual Payment Enrollment

File: app/actions/payment-requests.ts

  • Fixed confirmPaymentAndEnroll() to use enroll_user() RPC
  • Fixed transaction status consistency
  • Removed metadata column usage
  • Status: ✅ Fixed

4. Pricing Page

File: app/(public)/pricing/page.tsx

  • Now fetches plans from database
  • Groups by duration (monthly/yearly)
  • Uses real plan IDs in checkout links
  • Status: ✅ Fixed

5. Checkout Page

File: app/(public)/checkout/page.tsx

  • Fetches plans from database by ID
  • Gets product prices from product_courses
  • Status: ✅ Fixed

6. Test Data Seeding

Files Created:

  • scripts/seed-purchase-data.ts - Seeds products and plans
  • scripts/test-purchase-core.ts - Tests core functionality
  • scripts/test-purchase-flow.ts - Validates database state
  • Status: ✅ All working

    • Pro Monthly - $19/mo (30 days)
    • Pro Yearly - $190/yr (365 days)
  • 1 Course:

    • Introduction to JavaScript (3 lessons)

🎯 Purchase Flows Tested

Flow 1: Manual Payment (Offline)

  1. Student visits /products/{productId} (payment_provider = 'manual')
  2. Clicks "Request Payment Information"
  3. Fills out contact form
  4. Payment request created (status: 'pending')
  5. Admin Process:
    • Reviews request in dashboard
    • Updates status to 'contacted'
    • Sends payment instructions
    • Student pays offline
    • Admin confirms payment
    • Calls confirmPaymentAndEnroll()
  6. System:
    • Creates transaction (status: 'successful')
    • Calls enroll_user() RPC
    • Enrolls in all linked courses
    • Updates request status to 'completed'

Result: ✅ User enrolled successfully

Flow 2: Plan Purchase (Subscription)

  1. Student visits /pricing
  2. Selects plan (Monthly or Yearly)
  3. Clicks "Get Started"
  4. Redirected to /checkout?planId={id}
  5. Clicks "Pay & Enroll (Test)"
  6. System:
    • Creates transaction (status: 'successful')
    • Calls handle_new_subscription() RPC
    • Creates subscription with correct duration
    • Sets status to 'active'
  7. Redirected to /dashboard/student

Result: ✅ Subscription created successfully

Flow 3: Product Purchase (Single Course)

  1. Student visits /products or /checkout?courseId={id}
  2. Proceeds to checkout
  3. Clicks "Pay & Enroll (Test)"
  4. System:
    • Finds product linked to course
    • Creates transaction (status: 'successful')
    • Calls enroll_user() RPC
    • Enrolls in course
  5. Redirected to /dashboard/student

Result: ✅ Enrollment created successfully
