Strategize Web API publication

Overview

The FOLA mission is to be the most accurate, comprehensive and reliable source of information about food resources in LA County, and ultimately to a wider audience. There are many potential users of this information beyond our own website. We need a strategy for making our information available to a wider audience via an API or other technology.

Action Items

• We need to decide what our goals are with respect to providing data to outside parties:
• • What is an appropriate business model?
• • Do we expect to receive compensation to help fund operations by a subscrilption or per-query transaction fee?
• • Can we just expose a Web API, or should we provide data consumers with client-side widgets (perhaps to promote the CfA or Hack for LA brands?)
• Design a registration and authorization plan for access the the API (supply an authorization token with each web request?)
• Develop online documentation for developers who want to programmatically access our data.
• Design and implement any customer managerment system we need to manage access to the exposed data.
• Billing system?
• Define issues to work on to implement the above.
