Number of entries over time

Hi - I've been consuming the Pro blocklist for a few weeks now and have noticed it change from something like 184K wildcard domain entries to around 166K entries as of today. Would be good to get some background info on why it declined. Better still some longer term charts.

I noticed there is this table in the readme:

What do the two numbers in the "Entries" column mean - i assume its domains/host and then compressed domains ?

Removed DEAD domains. Due to NRDs contained in TIF feeds, fluctuations occur from time to time. Nothing to worry about, the list is as effective as before.

@hagezi Why did the number of domains in Pro++ (Wildcard Domains list) suddenly skyrocket?

Last week the number fluctuated between 195.000-197.000 domains, and as of now, that number is 246.349.

I'm wondering because it's getting dangerously close to the limit of my Cloudflare Zero Trust. 😅

No, I don't have a size limit in the build. Anything that fits the blocking level, is popular and increases effectiveness is added to the list. Since NRDs are also included, this can vary considerably. This is kept reasonably balanced because dead domains are removed regularly.
The mini lists are intended for ad blockers that have a size limit for lists.

How effective are mini lists compared to normal ones?

I'm sorry for bothering you with these questions. I need to have a backup in case Pro++ goes above 300.000 domains. 🙃

There are some compromises when it comes to malware, phishing, scam and pop-up ads. The lists only contain popular domains that can be found on the current Top 1M/10M lists.

Hi Mr. Hagezi, sorry to piggyback off this discussion. I just have a few general questions about dns filterlists. Sorry in advance if this is not the place to ask.

1. Does your ultimate mini list also cover the native trackers? Or would it only be covering what is also in the top 1M/10M of those trackers too? would you recommend re-adding some of those original native tracker lists on top of the mini?
2. I notice your response on the adguard subreddit a few weeks ago addressing differences in dns and adblock filterlist blocking. I currently also use the adguard app (on android) itself and there are sections to put my own filterlists. Would I need to add your filterlists in both formats (adblock format in the adblock section) and also the domains version in the DNS section? Or would the adblock list themselves be sufficient?
3. I am required to use the default browser on my work phone and there is only a section for adding 1 custom filterlist of user rules. I was planning on compiling a few of your lists (mainly the ultimate-mini and TIF-medium) with adguard hostlist-compiler repo Is that tool compatible with compiling your lists in the adblock format or would I need to stick with host? Are there other tools you would recommend instead?

This doesn't really belong here, but...

1. In the Ads and Trackers section, you don't have to compromise with the mini versions.
2. In the AdGuard app, DNS filter lists should not be added as content filter lists. They belong under DNS filter lists and the AdBlock format should be used.
3. Yes, you can use the hostlist compiler.
