are you actually using "shadow terms" together with the default query block in fullsiteediting templates?

I'm looking for a smart way to query posts filtered by that taxonomy, which is the shadow of the current post. But because I want to use the block in templates, I don't know and don't want to add a specific term ID into the templates.

In carstingaxion/contextual-query-loops#34 I wrote down some ideas on how to do this. I would love to know, how you would solve such a thing.
