Description
Addition of a Providers table so services can be tagged on who provided them. You can currently do this with an extra field, but this doesn't allow finding all services provided across multiple vehicles by the same provider.

Say the same dealer does all the maintenance on several cars. This would allow populating that info. Could also be used for fuel-ups as a way to tag who you got the gas from. "Show me all the gas I've purchased from the Shell on Smith and 5th".

I suppose if we wanted to really expand on this: option to make extra fields their own table. This could be expanded to say allowing Service Records have a field that was a list of options (so you could pull all your oil changes, or tire rotations, etc) rather than having a freeform field. Then this provider list would also just be a table of options for providers of a given thing. Service, Fuel, etc.

so here's what we are thinking and planning to add in the future, when creating extra fields, the user will have an option to create it as a "Dropdown" type, and they can set then options for possible values that the dropdown can contain.

That would certainly solve it at some level. I guess the biggest issue there would just be you'd have to add a new dropdown option for each Provider or Description. Wouldn't address the whole "Show me all the gas I've purchased from this Shell" or whatever. But even a dropdown would help with consistency for things like "Oil Change", "Tire Rotation" etc.

Yeah...an alternate solution would be what was proposed in #1272 where it auto populates based on the data that already exists, tho it is significantly much more expensive to run.

So I'm thinking about this, and while this would work for providers, it doesn't work as well for things like "Description" being a list of things done (Oil Change, Oil Filter, Air Filter, etc) unless you also add the ability to "add" different things done to a given service record. Or, best practice becomes several service records per service done. So if I change oil and filter, that would be one service record on a date, ODO. Then a separate service record for an air filter (since air filters don't have the same service interval as oil or filter).

The dropdown option works mostly for providers, but may run into issues if you want to have say, gas stations as providers. "Shell at Smith and Watson" is different than "Shell at Smith and Sherlock". =/

Obviously up to you all, but thought I'd dump out some thoughts on this. Thanks!
