How to show the option value instead of text once the item selected in chosen?

Currently the chosen dropdown displays the selected item text in text box field. I need to show the option value instead of text. 
For example 
<select id="ddlstate" class="chosen-select" multiple>
<option value ="AK">Alabama</option>
<option value ="AR">Arkansas</option>
......
</select>
I need value "AK" to be displayed in the chosen search text field after the select.
