Debugging Hashcat errors

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to find out why Hashtopolis is failing. You will receive an error like:

Error during speed benchmark, return code: 255 Output:

Most of the time an error like this means that sometimes in Hashcat is wrong. To debug what is going on:

1. Stop the hashtopolis agent screen
2. Start the hashtopolis agent with the --debug flag
3. Look for a log line where hashcat is called:

4. Change to the cracker binary directory
5. (OPTIONAL) Check which cracker id your task uses, you can see this in the hashtopolis web ui http://<hashtopolis_url>/crackers.php?id=1 Check the ID in front of your version. If you didn't upload a new version of hashcat, the cracker id will probably just be 1
6. cd crackers/1/ (or change 1 of the ID in step 5
7. How take the hashcat command from the log, remove '--machine-readable' '--quiet' and the '-p " "' (the last one is a tab character, and this is causing issue's when you copy it from a logfile).
8. ./hashcat.bin --progress-only --restore-disable --potfile-disable --session=hashtopolis -a3 ../../hashlists/2 ?l?l?l?l?l?l?a --hash-type=0 -o ../../hashlists/2.out

And check your output!
