If you are a macOS user you may experiment some trouble trying to run TuxGuitar. Let's take a minute to explain why.
Apple's ecosystem is globally a closed one. If you want to use an app under macOS, it needs to be approved by Apple (app needs to be "notarized"). Unfortunately this creates strong constraints for developers.
According to Apple's doc, this requires at least:

This list of constraints is probably not exhaustive.
TuxGuitar is developed and maintained by a community of volunteers, for free, and currently these constraints are blocking.
It is still possible to run TuxGuitar on macOS, you need to follow the procedure described here: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/open-a-mac-app-from-an-unknown-developer-mh40616/mac
