Version 2.0.0 introduced a new free edition mode: now, TuxGuitar can let you do dirty things and create invalid measures. Yes, you can put 15 quarters in a 4/4 measures if you want.
But... it doesn't make sense! Why would anyone do that?
I assume GuitarPro users should understand easily. For others, let's consider a short exercise. First, download the following tablature, unzip it and open it with TuxGuitar >=2.0.0 free_edition_mode.zip
Now, your objective is to edit measure of track 1, so that it becomes exactly identical to track 2. In other words your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to change the 1st screenshot below into the 2nd:
Do it first in normal edition mode. See if you can reach the goal on first try, without hitting Ctrl+Z key (I couldn't). Be honest, and count the number of mouse clicks and keyboard strokes. You may be smart enough to do this in an efficient manner, but I have to admit I'm not.
Then (and only then!) look at the 9 seconds video below: 4 clicks are enough in free edition mode.
free_edition_mode.mp4
Pause video at time t=0:04, lines are red because the measure is invalid: there are 3 quarters plus one eight in a 3/4 measure, that is clearly illegal. So you've got it now: this is made possible because free edition mode lets you go through invalid transient states when you edit a tab.
But please be serious, and don't fill the web with invalid .tg files. Fix your invalid measures before saving your tab. You'll get a systematic warning if you don't.
Free edition mode can be activated with menu "Edit -> Free edition mode", or through dedicated icon in left toolbar.
It is automatically turned on whenever you put the cursor in an invalid measure. Warning: free edition mode can be tricky when multiple voices are used, it is not recommended in this case.
