Drum (re)mapping

Hello!

Is there a way to map your drum notes to another notes that would correspond to TuxGuitar/General MIDI drum map?

I am using Ardour to make my drums and I would like to create notation and tabs for my songs using TuxGuitar. I could simply export my drums from Ardour to MIDI format and then import that MIDI file into TuxGuitar. But the drum mapping is different in Ardour than in TuxGuitar / General MIDI so the MIDI doesn't work unless I remap the notes to correct ones. There are services like midiremap.com but that seems overkill here.

How can I achieve this? Could or should this be done in TuxGuitar or should this be done in some other way?

I do not really understand your use case: you want to import into TuxGuitar a (so-called) "midi file" that does not use the midi drums mapping? How then can this be called a "midi file" ?

There is currently no way to re-map the drums in TuxGuitar, that follows General Midi.
If you would like to do this, I think the most efficient method would be to develop your own midi file importer plugin. That should not be so complicated, as the midi file importer is already a plugin (see common\TuxGuitar-midi folder)

You have a point there. These are not "valid" MIDI files in the sense that drums should be in channel 10 and use specific notes for specific drums as General MIDI is supposed to be.

I think I will try to create my own MIDI file importer plugin. Thank you for your reply :)

OK fine. Take care, importing midi files is not a very efficient way to create tablatures, especially the left-hand fingering chosen by TuxGuitar is really arbitrary and does not consider any guitar playing technique. Your guitarist and bassist can expect some work to do after the import to make the tablature really useful.

I see your point and once again, you are absolutely correct. But just to clarify, I will make the bass and guitar tablatures manually using TuxGuitar. Only the drums and some synths will be imported using MIDI files. And even those are just "nice to have" on our TuxGuitar files and not really needed. But still, I will keep this in mind if I decide to do other stuff in the future.
