If you're using the latest versions of TensorFlow and Keras (in my case, TensorFlow 2.18.0 and Keras 3.8.0),

the merge function has been deprecated. Instead, you should use the Concatenate layer from Keras.

from keras.layers import Concatenate

# Replace the merge function with Concatenate
mlp_vector = Concatenate()([mlp_user_latent, mlp_item_latent])

the merge function with the multiply mode has been deprecated. Instead, you should use the Multiply layer from Keras.

from keras.layers import Multiply

# Replace the merge function with Multiply
mlp_vector = Multiply()([mlp_user_latent, mlp_item_latent])
