Improve: birthday cake

Gotta say I love the OpenMoji project and I'm interested in how it develops. Looking at some of the emojis for use in creating documents for personal projects, I noticed a few emojis that I think could do with improvement, one of them being the birthday cake emoji.

Other emoji systems represent this emoji as a cake topped with candles, and it's often used to represent birthdays in general and not just cake.

The OpenMoji cake, however, just has a cherry on top so may appear as just a standard cake. Maybe it'd be clearer if it had candles on it instead?

How does something like this look as a mockup? Obviously I will make an SVG version bearing in mind the format guidelines if this looks okay.

you're right … this cherry is a very spartan topping ; )
i like the candles and the glaze!
what about trying a semi 3d version?
normally we try to avoid 3d stuff but in this case it might be useful for a better understanding?

We could do! After saying that, the new Microsoft birthday cake emoji has gone for the flat approach and still looks really clear

I'll have a little play around with that cylinder and see what I can do

interesting … what i like here is that the topping is wider than the cake underneath. and the brown / beige base is also a good option. and you are right: it works perfect in 2d. so unless you have too much spare time i would also suggest to just improve and finetune your current 2d version. have fun decorating!
