support attachment in captions

Currently a textattachfile cannot be inserted in a caption, as in [1]. Is this something easy to support?

Works fine for me in a current TeX system. You should use the optional argument to avoid to get nested links in the list of figures but apart from this I see no problem.

Thank you for the reply! I checked it works too in a MWE. I was able to pinpoint when it doesn't work for me. I am not sure if it is my xelatex system or a package conflict, but the following will not work for me if both are used:

• run xelatex instead of pdflatex
• include caption package
  whereas any other combination works.

\usepackage{caption} % works with pdflatex not xelatex

Well as almost always the singlelinecheck is the problem. I don't have the time to investigate why it fails exactly (caption must do more than simply putting in a box as there is no problem with the standard LaTeX caption), but you can try

\usepackage[singlelinecheck=false]{caption}

or

\makeatletter
  \caption[an important figure]{There are more data than presented here, see
   \ifmeasuring@ this\else\textattachfile{moredata.txt}{this}\fi.}
