When a WhatsApp contact writes to me, a different chat appears with a different identifier

I have my WhatsApp contacts that appear in my friends list with their name, but if a contact from my friends list writes to me, a new chat appears with a different ID, even though I already have an open conversation with that friend, because I wrote to them first.

For example, I have a friend on the list with the name "Jose" and identification "xxxxxxxxx@s.whatsapp.net"

But when he writes to me, a chat appears with the identification "263646785581111@lid"

Yes, and it is a recent thing (the last month). Some numbers obtain a seemingly unrelated but persistent string of digits followed by "@lid". Writing to the original contact and to this @lid contact sends the message to the recipient, but the messages sent to the @lid contact do not show up in the official Android version of the client. Can this be fixed in the next update? For example, join both versions of the contact into the same original one to keep the chat history in the same folder.

Thank you for the report. This is issue #252. Feel free to continue the conversation on that issue. I will close this one to avoid confusion. A fix is underway in the dev branch, but not yet ready to be released. With some luck, I can look into it this Sunday. 🙂

Thanks, it worked when I updated the plugin. But today I found out that it works when I use only Pidgin. When I used my Android WhatsApp for sending messages, in Pidgin the outcoming messages (i.e. the ones I sent) are marked as incoming: Pidgin marks them with the contact's name, not my name. What could be the reason for this?

I probably messed up somewhere else. Or something changed and I have not looked into it, yet. Related: #254. With any luck, I can fix it this year.

When I used my Android WhatsApp for sending messages, in Pidgin the outgoing messages are marked as incoming: Pidgin marks them with the contact's name, not my name.

I looked into this today and am unable to reproduce the described behaviour. 🙁
