Android 6 Support?

Hey guys! I've got an old tablet I want to mount on the wall for easy access to my dashboard, but when trying to onboard the app on an Android 6 device I find that after giving the app the address of the HA instance, it just presents me with a blank screen. No login prompt, just the logo at the top and nothing else. I'm sure this is just because Android 6 is so old that it's completely unsupported today. I just wanted to ask if anyone has tried anything similar and if they had which release of the companion app they used to make it work. Cheers!

Android 6 is supported by the app, but it still requires an up-to-date Android System WebView to work. Canyou check your version for that app, and see if any updates are available?

Google Play Services aren't working well at the moment, so I can't see if there are updates available for the device in question, but it's running Android 6.0.1, has Android System Webview 95.0.4638.74, and HomeAssistant 2024.10.3-full.
After some tweaking I have got it to display the login page and the 2FA page, but when entering the 2FA code and clicking submit, the app now crashes and restarts at the beginning of the process.

What kind of tweaking? 😅

Which app and Home Assistant version are you using?

The HA installation is running the latest: 2026.1.2, the app on the tablet is 2024.10.3-full. Can't seem to get Google Play to do much of anything, including checking for or downloading updates. The tweaking was just trying to troubleshoot Google Play Services. Thing crashes in the background every few minutes; couldn't tell you what precisely I did that got me to the login screen.

Please try updating the companion app to a more recent version first, there's a reasonable chance a crashing issue is fixed in the year+ since your version was released.

I've given up on trying to figure out what's wrong with Google Play Services and found a way to sideload a newer version of HomeAssistant: 2025.11.1-full. This did not improve my situation. I then tried to do the same with WebView and updated it to 105.0.5195.136. With both of these updates I still have a consistent crash on my device when submitting the 2FA code.
