I'd like to add that it is confusing that HA companion app lite available on F-Droid and HA companion app full available from Google have the same name and icon. When I first tried to commission with HAC lite it said " you need Home Assistant Companion app" . It took me some time to realize they are different.

I recently tried to configure my first Matter/Thread network using HA OS connected to a Connect ZBT-2. Because I do not consent to Gs Terms of service I have no google account, nor Apple. I use a “de-googled” android cellphone with custom ROM which uses microG in lieu of the Play-Services. When I try to commission a new Thread device from the app the option “new thread device” is grayed out. I finally found a work-around : https://community.home-assistant.io/t/matter-thread-without-google/982611?u=harald3145
It shows that Google Play Services are NOT needed. A working Bluetooth LE adapter is sufficient. It should not be too difficult to include a OpenThread commissioner into HA companion lite and / or refrain from using Google-Play-Services in HA companion full at least if these are not present.
