Option to configure "untracked" energy as a device

It would be nice to configure for each "Individual device" on the energy dashboard if it should show as a group or as a single device.

At the moment, devices that have sub-devices act as groups. They show up on their own, then the sub-devices show up, and then the untracked energy shows up. This is fine in many cases, like metering a circuit breaker and some individual outlets.

If set to "single device", it would instead show the sub-devices and the untracked energy as the device, leaving out the total. This would be useful when metering a single device and something attached to that device.

For example, I have an energy meter on my AC. The condensation pump attached to the AC is on a smart switch, which also reports its consumption. At the moment, it gives me three measurements:

• AC (actually AC plus pump)
• pump (OK)
• untracked (actually AC)

In "single device" mode, this would instead give:

• AC (AC minus pump)
• pump

This could also be accomplished by allowing a device's "untracked" energy to be named in that device's options and allowing the device itself to be hidden. This probably is the more flexible way to implement this.

Do you have a screenshot of this "3 measurements"? I would have only expected it to show pump and AC (untracked). I'm not sure why you say AC would be in the list twice.

I've lumped together the entries in "Individual devices detail usage" and "Individual devices total usage". Sorry if that wasn't clear, but I didn't want to complicate the matter by complaining about those two lists not having the same entries---which is another can of worms. Maybe I should have, as making them use the same entries would be implied when implementing my suggestion.

Also, I didn't consciously notice it, which is no wonder considering I'm trying to make sense of this mess:

It's just a giant blob or rounding errors, isn't it? (See also my other suggestion.) But why is it telling me the wires from the OG Phase 3 meter to the AC (Klimaanlage) meter produced 0.3 kWh?

I'll be honest I don't really get what you're doing here, but I suspect you're adding too much things to the devices section.

You don't need to add your electricty meter here, it's just adding extra noise.

The only reason to add a parent device and a child device is if you want to track them separately. If the meaningful consumption of a specific circuit is fully covered by child devices, there's no reason to add their parent to the devices section, just leave it out and then you won't see it's negligible rounding errors.

I wouldn't call this over-metered. The grid meter isn't a device; it's plugged into "Grid consumption" and "Return to grid". On the top level, I have 9 measurements, 3 phases for 3 floors. I need to have them all in there, as they are the whole consumption unless I put a meter on each and every single device. The grid meter only reports netted and only whole kWh.

On phase 3 of the second floor, there are a couple of circuits with outlets (that by chance consume next to nothing at the moment) and one circuit with the AC. The AC is metered, as I'm interested in its consumption and the other circuits do have consumers I could turn on at any point (i.e. measuring the whole phase is of no use). Connected to the AC is the condensate pump on a smart switch; this one is metered partly "just because" and partly because I want to see its consumption (it's small and not the source of rounding errors).

(Correction: In the picture, I have a metered device on an outlet on the same phase as the AC. In reality, that phase has no other metered device for the second floor. Those are all on the other two phases/floors.)

There are two big rounding errors in this setup:

1. The grid meter reports in bursts and netted. So I get a 1kWh import or export "tick" every once in a while:

2. The AC meter reads ~3% higher than the "second floor, phase 3" meter.

Neither of those explains the untracked -0.3kWh reported for "second floor, phase 3", or while I get two "Total consumed" readouts.

This addressed, back to the original topic:

For the pair AC and pump, I want to see the AC's consumption and the pump's consumption. For the 9 phase meters, I want to see the devices, whatever is consumed by unmetered devices (phases of the same floor combined would be fine unless I want to identify which device has high consumption, then I want it broken down as small as possible), and ideally, the total consumption of that floor. For the latter, "untracked" really is untracked---it's devices that are not individually metered. For the AC, "untracked" is the actual consumption of the AC, not some other, unknown, unmetered devices.
