After 2025.2.x the Map dashboard shows devices that are home when it should only show devices/people not home

When i view the map i can see devices on the map that are at home when they should be hidden

devices that are home should be hidden as was the case in 2025.1.x and before

funny for the android app we literally pushed code changes to avoid sensors from showing up on the map because of bugs reported by users in the past. Some of those bugs were even reported to this repo and the frontend team asked us to fix in the app.

that PR is very hard to follow the decision making process, earlier it was mentioned by @MindFreeze this should be an option but i dont see that being the case. instead i see a disagreement about asking PR authors not to do too much and then the PR was just merged?

the map looks so zoomed out now it makes no sense to me personally speaking.

I'm not making the connection between seeing users at home and the zoom level / "unglanceability".

I wouldn't have expected any change to the zoom, I thought the home was always shown on the map anyway.

in 2025.1.4 when a user is home they are not shown on the map at all.

So if person A is at home and Person B is in zone A, the map would be zoomed on Zone A only and would not show the home zone

if everyone is home then yes we are zoomed on the home zone

Thanks, I had forgotten, I assumed the map panel fit all the zones, but I guess I misremembered.

the map becomes more cluttered and as a result not focused on where users are outside the home. Its like when you open google maps you expect it to show the local area and not the whole country because whats the point right? you have to zoom and move the map to your area.

The HA map to me is all about where are you when not at home.

That's very subjective. One can argue that the map shows the people. If they are at home, it shows the home. Otherwise you would rarely see the home on the map and HA is the home.
We may need a poll to determine the preferred behavior.

Agreed very subjective, personally speaking I am used to the original map before the card existed but that may have to do with how long i have used HA for :)

Learned experience is something we don't want to only rely on when dealing with elements of HA, because it's not transparent for new users. We should aim for things to be understandable with as little prior knowledge as possible (the "Don't make me think" principle).
A map view is designed to show POI's. Beause of that user assume to see them UNLESS they explicitly performed an action that would remove them, otherwise the whole experience won't be understandable. That's why we aimed to remove the "hide" logic - which really was a quick fix to not have the problem we currently have. To fix this we want to introduce clustering so that we will make maps always understandable for all types of user.

If any of you are willing to implement this, I can help you with design decisions.

Clustering, while would be nice, doesn't really seem relevant here and doesn't address the request.

Maybe if map card gained options that could reproduce map panel behavior (auto-show all trackers, and optionally hide home), user could take control of map panel and get the desired behavior.

My 2 cents (a bit related I feel):

If device_tracker/person is in home zone, then it becomes more interresting whether they are in a specific area (I strongly believe areas should be grouped into zones, by default the home zone). That's where you'd want a floorplan instead of a map (if all are in home zone).

In any case uniformity would be nice, having different behaviour of home vs other zones is confusing.
