Describe the issue you are experiencing
Board: generic-x86-64
Working: HAOS 17.2 (slot A)
Broken: HAOS 17.3 (slot B)
USB Ethernet adapter:
Vendor ID: 0b95 (ASIX Electronics)
Product ID: 1790 (AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet)
Interface: enp4s0f3u1c2
MAC: 6C:6E:07:2A:7B:5A
On 17.3: adapter completely absent from ha network info
and ha hardware info. No ethernet subsystem entries.
On 17.2: adapter detected correctly, primary: true.
Note: AX88179 had a previous regression in HAOS 8.5
(issue #2081) which was fixed. Appears 17.3 kernel
has reintroduced this.
What operating system image do you use?
generic-x86-64 (Generic UEFI capable x86-64 systems)
What version of Home Assistant Operating System is installed?
17.3
Did the problem occur after upgrading the Operating System?
Yes
Hardware details
Hardware: HP Envy laptop (bare metal)
Storage: SK Hynix BC501 NVMe SSD (HFM256GDJTNG)
Install type: Generic x86-64 UEFI
USB devices attached:
- ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapter
(VID: 0b95, PID: 1790, interface: enp4s0f3u1c2)
- Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus (Zigbee2MQTT)
- Realtek Bluetooth adapter (setup_retry state)
Network:
- Primary (17.2): enp4s0f3u1c2 (USB Ethernet, 192.168.1.108)
- Secondary: wlo1 (WiFi, 192.168.1.87)
Steps to reproduce the issue
- Install or update to HAOS 17.3 on generic x86-64 hardware
- Attach ASIX AX88179 USB Ethernet adapter (VID: 0b95, PID: 1790)
- Run: ha network info
- Run: ha hardware info | grep -i ethernet
Expected: Adapter appears as a connected ethernet interface (as it
does on HAOS 17.2)
Actual: Adapter is completely absent from both commands. No ethernet
interface detected. WiFi only.
Note: Rolling back to 17.2 via 'ha os boot-slot A' immediately
restores the adapter without any config changes, confirming this
is a 17.3 kernel regression. Previous identical regression
documented in issue #2081 (HAOS 8.5).
