TRL Slack Channel

Hi, I’m getting started with contributing to TRL and went through the contribution guide, but I didn’t find any mention of a Slack channel. Is there an existing Slack workspace for the project? If not, it might be helpful to have one for the community.

Confirmed facts

• There is no Slack channel for TRL. Checked CONTRIBUTING.md in full — it makes no mention of Slack, Discord, or any chat platform for the project itself.
• Hugging Face (the org behind TRL) runs a general Discord server, not project-specific, but open to anyone in the HF ecosystem including TRL users/contributors:
  • Invite: https://discord.com/invite/JfAtkvEtRb (also linked from https://huggingface.co/join/discord)
  • Org page: https://huggingface.co/discord-community
  • This is a shared community server across all HF libraries (transformers, diffusers, trl, etc.), not a TRL-only channel.
• For actual TRL contribution discussion, the maintained channels are:
  • GitHub Issues — bugs/feature requests
  • GitHub Discussions (this page) — general Q&A
  • Pull Requests — code review discussion

Hypothesis / not confirmed

• No evidence of a TRL-specific Slack workspace ever existing (public or private). If one exists it isn't referenced anywhere in the repo's docs (CONTRIBUTING.md, README.md, docs/source/), so if it's real it's undocumented — unlikely.

Suggestion for the discussion

Given TRL leans on GitHub Issues/Discussions/PRs as its primary contributor workflow, a dedicated Slack is probably unnecessary duplication. If real-time chat is wanted, joining the existing HF Discord (and asking there whether a TRL-specific channel/role exists) is the lower-effort path versus standing up a new Slack workspace. Worth pinging a maintainer (e.g. via a comment tagging repo owners) to confirm this is intentional before assuming it's a gap.
