Hey @Sheffdrum , The version of Hydrogen you are using (1.2.0) is suffering from a bug causing this issue (#1751). You could use the latest version instead or, as a workaround, disable the Preferences > MIDI System > "Discard MIDI messages after action has been triggered" option. |

Hmm. According to your log in Preferences > MIDI you have still "None" selected as |

Thanks, I carried out experiments with an external drumkit (Yamaha DD-65) and 2 x versions of Hydrogen: - In both cases I connected Hydrogen to the external drumkit in Qjackctl / ALSA In the image of Hydrogen 1.2.4 DRIVER: ALSA When pads of the external drumkit are struck sound outputs via the headphone socket of the PC. In Hydrogen the Jack Trans Midi In light is permanently blue, it doesn’t blink when the pads of the external drumkit are struck. The same results were produced with these settings DRIVER: ALSA In Hydrogen 1.2.0 installed in op system. DRIVER: ALSA When pads of the external drumkit are struck sound outputs via the headphone socket of the PC. In Hydrogen the Jack Trans Midi In light is blank but it blinks blue when the pads of the external drumkit are struck. The same results were produced with the settings below DRIVER: ALSA Hydrogen seems to be working. I’m not sure what was going wrong before. There is one problem. When I set Hydrogen to record and hit the pads of my external kit I can hear the sound emitting through the headphone socket of my PC but the MIDI events do not seem to be recorded in Hydrogen. Is it possible for Hydrogen to record external drums or do the drums have to be configured to Ardour or a similar type of app? |

Hydrogen is quite old and for compatibility reason we keep lots of the old UX. Its works like an tape recorder. You first have to press the record button and then hit play. See http://hydrogen-music.org/documentation/manual/manual_en.html#chpt.overview.recording
Version 1.2.4 is able to recognize and handle more MIDI events. Maybe the drumkit is flooding the channel with meta events version 1.2.0 did just dropped. Could you start v1.2.4 with the |

++ It produced a massive amount of terminal data which I add below. I’m not that familiar with Hydrogen. I take your point that it works just like a tape recorder. I treated it like one. I pressed play/record and then started beating the pads of my external drum kit. Sound outputted from the headphone socket of my PC. I thought that the idea of Hydrogen was that beats that are played on external kit would appear as MIDI events in Hydrogen and that they could then be edited and so on. Is that the case? In Hydrogen what is the name of the window to the right of the loaded drum kit? TERMINAL DATA Bye... Objects map : class constr destr alive |

Yeah. The your drumkit is configured to send loads of MIDI events to synchronize time. For each of them the LED flashes. This results in it being constantly on.
Yes, it is. You did press the record button and afterwards the play button, as described in the manual? |

I’m running Ubuntu Studio 24.04.1 LTS (on a Dell Optiplex desktop). I have an Alesis Turbo Mesh kit and I’m trying to configure it to the pre-installed Hydrogen 1.2.0-beta.
In Jack / Qjackctl / Connect / ALSA
I’ve connected Hydrogen to Alesis Turbo Mesh
In Hydrogen / Preferences / MIDI
I used the following settings
MIDI DRIVER: ALSA
INPUT: Alesis Turbo Mesh
OUTPUT: Alesis Turbo Mesh (I also tried qjackctl)
CHANNEL: All
When I strike a pad on the Alesis Turbo Mesh kit the ‘Jack Transport' 'Midi In’ light flashes in Hydrogen but there is no corresponding sound.
I figured that I had to configure the Alesis Turbo Mesh kit In Jack / Qjackctl / Setup / Settings / Advanced but everything is greyed out in that tab.
(I have 2 x guitar USB interfaces and they both work in Jack without having to be configured in Qjackctl / Setup / Settings / Advanced)
Any ideas?
